"h2"From the manufacturer

Since the beginning, Dragon set out to be the leading eyewear and accessories brand in the active youth lifestyle market by supporting the best athletes with premier products, while remaining connected to core retailers and consumers. That mission still holds true today and remains to be the driving force behind the company’s triumph and heritage.

From a garage in Capo Beach, CA in 1993, founder Will Howard aimed to build a company that encompassed his affinity for surfing, snowboarding, and riding dirt bikes. Eagerness and a niche expertise of the market bore Dragon’s first and still primary product – sunglasses. Initially distributing to local surf shops before expanding brand awareness in Hawaii and Florida, Dragon would soon develop a global reach, eventually appearing in the Australian and European marketplace.

Dragon gradually broadened its reach, while simultaneously developing innovative and diversified product offerings in the eyewear category. With an emphasis on creating functional and premium merchandise, our brand has stayed true to its appeal in the youth market, while continuing to push the status quo.

Plant Based ResinPlant Based Resin

  • Plant-based resin is a natural bio-based plastic, a smarter and much cleaner alternative to standard petroleum-based plastics.
  • The material we use comes from castor bean oil, a highly resilient and renewable plant resource. It creates plastics that are strong, light, and durable while reducing our carbon footprint and ultimately, our impact on the planet.
  • The castor plant is prized for its ability to thrive in the harshest conditions; growing in arid regions of the world where little else can be successfully farmed. In these regions, castor bean cultivation creates jobs for some 700,000 farmers
  • Dragon is proud to partner with the global network of suppliers trained and certified by Pragati, an educational organization aimed at reducing environmental impact and improving quality of life through creating more sustainable supply chains.

More Beautiful, Colorful Dahlias

Beautiful, colorful dahlias continue to bloom at my Bedford, New York farm.

Dahlias begin to bloom with great profusion just as other plants pass their prime, and they last right up until the first frost. This year, my all-dahlia garden was planted in a large bed behind my vegetable greenhouse. We planted the garden in June and through the summer, we all watched its progression. We have flowers ranging from small to giant dinner-plate size in all different colors and shades - many from Swan Island Dahlias in Oregon, from Floret in the State of Washington, and from The Flower Hat, a flower farm based in Bozeman, Montana.

Here are more of the gorgeous flowers in bloom right now, enjoy.

Planting Bur Oak Trees

My Bedford, New York farm continues to transform with the planting of many beautiful and interesting trees.

Trees are very important to our environment - they help combat climate change, provide habitat and food for birds and other animals, and release oxygen for us to live. Yesterday, my crew planted a group of bur oak trees, Quercus macrocarpa - two rows along the outsides of the boxwood allee, one on the left and one on the right. They will grow so nicely here, and provide beautiful texture and shade when mature.

Here are some photos.

Baling the Second Cut of Hay

My horses are already enjoying some of the newly baled hay.

Hay is a harvested plant that’s dried and cured after being cut in the field. In most cases, hay is cut during the late bud or early bloom stage to maximize its nutritional value. This week, my outdoor grounds crew cut, tedded, raked, and then baled the hay from one of my three fields. This second cut of the season is greener, more dense, and filled with lots of protein - my horses love it.

Enjoy these photos and the short video at the end.

And here is a short video showing how the machine picks up the hay, bales it, and then throws it into the wagon.
